Scenic Cleanup this Saturday

Coming up . . .

Only those who RSVP for overnighting with the intention of participating in the Saturday clean-up will be allowed on the property Friday afternoon.  Those participants indicating a wish to camp overnight will be welcome anytime after 4pm on Friday.  Please contact me personally to make arrangements to drive past the gate to the property (bangedupshins@gmail.com or (206) 569-4512)

Clean Up Event coming June 15th, 2013

Put Saturday, June 15th, 2013 on your calendars to join us at Scenic Hot Springs to spruce them up and make up for a long winter and even longer wet spring season.

We will make the springs available to participants starting Friday afternoon for a chance to camp on the property and enjoy some rare night-time soaking.  The following day we will try to accomplish several needed projects:

A recent trip report:



I did a late afternoon trip up to the springs, arriving at the parking
lot around 3:00 p.m. Temperature was 60 degrees at the trailhead. I was
surprised at how quickly the snow is melting. The snow berm along Hwy. 2
is essentially gone, and there is only 1-2 feet of snow on the roads up
to the trail above the power lines, with lots of bare patches along the

Snow Melt and Hot Spring Temperatures

Spring is finally making a comeback but an unfortunate aspect of that is that all that snow up there is begining to melt and the spring sources are being affected.  This trend will continue probably until into late April-early May until the saturation of cold groundwater drops and the shallow springs can recover.



There are two spring sources used up at Scenic .. . Lobster and Bear Den.  

Winter Storm Warning

Winter Storm Warning is in effect this afternoon and overnight for the Cascades.  Two to three feet of fresh snow is predicted.  Please plan accordingly!

Winter Storm Advisory Sunday through Monday

Lots of snow coming down in the passes this Sunday through Monday afternoon!  Snowshoes are an absolute must.  Please be prepared if you have a scheduled, permitted visit.

Snow Conditions

Spring is sneaking up on us (despite today's snow in the mountains).  In the last week we have have a number of warmer, above freezing days and this has led to some melting at the lower elevations.
